Share Sheet
Saving web pages, text, images, and files into a new or existing task from any app on iPhone and iPad.
Save to Kan Do appears in the share sheet on iPhone and iPad (and on the Mac's Share menu). It turns whatever you're looking at into a task, or adds it to one you already have, without leaving the app you're in.
Sharing into a new task
- Tap Share in any app and choose Kan Do.
- The Save to Kan Do sheet opens with Mode set to a new task.
- Title is filled in for you: a web page's title, or the first words of shared text.
- Location picks a column, grouped by space. Leave it for the Inbox.
- Add a Note if you like.
- Tap Done.
Sharing into an existing task
Switch Mode to the existing-task option, type in Search tasks, and tap the task. The shared items are added to it.
What happens to each kind of content
| You share | Kan Do does |
|---|---|
| A web page | Title becomes the task title, the address goes to Links |
| A short line of text | Becomes the title |
| A long passage of text | Goes into the note in full. The title gets the opening words with an ellipsis |
| A picture | Becomes an image attachment |
| A file | Becomes an attachment, up to 25 MB |
| Several items at once | Each is listed under Shared Items, with a reason if one can't be saved |
After an update
If you've just updated Kan Do and haven't opened it yet, the sheet asks you to open Kan Do once first. That lets the app finish updating its database. If the database is briefly busy, the sheet retries for up to a second and then asks you to try again in a moment.
Other ways in
- Drag and drop on iPad and Mac puts files and pictures straight into a note.
- Paste a picture into a note.
- Shortcuts can save from any source. See Shortcuts.
Sharing a long email or article into a task, then adding a due date, is the simplest way to turn "read this later" into something that actually comes back to you.
